Letter: Blaming multiculturalism is not a solution
Re: Robert Spencer’s March 23 column “Blame multicultural fantasies for Brussels attacks”: This reflects his anti-Muslim biases, not facts.
There has been no connection made thus far that refugees from Iraq and Syria were responsible for the attack in Belgium, just as there is little evidence of refugee involvement in the Paris attack last year. Blaming refugees, however, as well as multiculturalism is an easy out.
Violent extremism is definitely a problem, which has root causes and symptoms that both need addressing. Scapegoating Muslims refugees, however, who fled their homes due to repression and terrorism as well as blaming multiculturalism are not solutions. They are simply coded messages of racism.
