Letter: Is Trump the demise of Republicans?

The road to recovery begins by admitting you have a problem. The problem for the Republicans is Donald Trump.

It’s time party leaders admit Trump has no chance of victory and might well lose by historic proportions. Stop making excuses for him. It’s ridiculous and embarrassing.

There’s talk of a turn around if Trump just starts acting “presidential.” But it’s too late for that. The damage has already been done by Trump’s inane, sophomoric statements.

If he’s not challenged, then by default his views must be those of the Republicans. Someone should step up, declare his or her candidacy, perhaps as a write-in and challenge Trump for Republican votes.

If something drastic isn’t done soon, we may be seeing the demise of the Party.
