Over the last 12 months, over 30 individuals in multiple positions have become Marathon employees, several of which are Detroit residents. One Detroiter, Devin Moses, was recently hired as an Area Team Engineer. “It is important to hire people who are native to the area because it brings along a greater level of care, safety and protection for the community,” Moses said. “Marathon already does a great job when it comes to taking the neighbors’ comfort and safety into consideration. When you hire Detroiters, you bridge the gap between the refinery and the community. I get actual feedback from the neighborhood and use that to improve the relationship with the refinery.”

Looking ahead

Marathon Petroleum is committed to being a great place to work by fostering a culture that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives and fosters a collaborative environment where its employees can learn, grow and contribute. Detroiter Angileena Gibson, a proud graduate of Cass Tech and Grand Valley State University, found her home on the refinery’s accounting team and is proud of her employer. “Anyone looking to be a part of a well-rounded organization that will help you expand your skill set, should look at Marathon Petroleum.
