Rocket Mortgage® continues to focus on the well-being of its team members and the community during COVID-19.

When COVID-19 struck metro Detroit and the rest of the country, Rocket Mortgage® quickly launched a work-from-home program, transitioning nearly 20,000 team members to full-time remote work.

The effort required a tremendous amount of coordination – and technology – to make the process nearly seamless for team members. 

Now, more than 8 months later, Rocket Mortgage® continues to focus on the well-being of its team members and the community during this time. 

Creating a drive-thru COVID-19 testing platform, launching fundraising campaigns, establishing rest and relaxation (R&R) days and providing child care assistance for team members – these are some of the ways that Rocket Mortgage® is helping team members, their families and the community navigate COVID-19.

Rocket Mortgage® transitioned nearly 20,000 team members to full-time remote work at the beginning of COVID-19.

COVID-19 Testing Site

At the start of COVID-19, the Rocket Mortgage® Technology team and its sister company, Rock Connections, partnered with the city of Detroit to set up a mass-testing platform that would facilitate drive-thru testing for COVID-19.

The solution the companies built, which included both a call center and scheduling software, allowed entire populations to be tested efficiently without long wait times. On its first day, the platform was able to schedule and facilitate 200 tests. That number grew to 800 within a week.

The platform tested more than 55,000 people from March through September – and Rocket Mortgage® made the technology and infrastructure it built open source and free to other cities so they could establish their own drive-thru testing sites. 

Caregiving And Virtual Tutoring Solutions

COVID-19 has forced team members to adjust to new schedules and routines; it has affected many children, parents and caregivers in the same way.

To help families adjust, Rocket Mortgage® is providing team members with access to two amazing benefits to support their well-being. They’ve partnered with and one of their own Rock Family of Companies, 

The company is providing its team members a one-year membership to, which helps people find vetted in-home care services for children, adults and pets.

With the waived membership, team members will have access to “care credits” to help pay for in-home child care, elder care, pet care, tutors and cleaning services. 

And, with so many children learning from home, Rocket Mortgage® has partnered with to provide team members’ children with virtual tutoring. The company is subsidizing half the cost of each one-on-one or small group tutor-led study.

R&R Days

Working from home, juggling kids' virtual school schedules and worrying about family members' health are just some of the reasons that people are stressed living through COVID-19.

Rocket Mortgage® recognizes that, and in response, launched a three-part rest and relaxation (R&R) program.

The program includes schedule flexibility and daily breaks as well as a paid R&R day off for each team member. The only requirement of the day: Use it to relax and recharge. 

Fundraising Campaigns

When COVID-19 shut down stores, schools and other businesses in March, many people lost their jobs and some children lost access to healthy meals that were served at school. Along with the shutdown, food distribution centers faced a shortage of volunteers.

Rocket Mortgage® and its team members came together to make a difference. Team members from across the Rock Family of Companies donated more than $300,000 – and the company matched it for a total donation of $622,416.14.

The money raised helped people in the community with financial assistance and rent forgiveness, as well as with the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE). Funds were distributed to local agencies in the company’s home cities of Detroit, Phoenix, Cleveland and Charlotte – as well as one national hunger relief organization.

More recently, Rocket Mortgage® participated in a program to provide computer tablets and internet connectivity to 51,000 Detroit Public Schools Community District students and their families so they can continue to learn remotely.

Home Office Equipment Giveaways

When Rocket Mortgage® transitioned its team members to remote work, they quickly distributed monitors, webcams and essential equipment for each team member’s home office. But as many team members began setting up their home offices, they realized they could work more efficiently with professional desks and chairs.

Thousands of team members received free ergonomic chairs and adjustable standing desks to work from home as efficiently as possible.

The company’s home office initiative has provided team members with thousands of ergonomic chairs and adjustable standing desks. To maintain safety and social distancing, items were picked up at a contact-free drive-thru site organized by Rocket Mortgage®

Professional Development And Learning Opportunities

Working from home can feel isolating at times – but having opportunities to learn and grow professionally can help team members look ahead to life after COVID-19.

Rocket Mortgage® offers professional development hours for team members to acquire new skills and knowledge during the workday. Full-time team members receive 24 professional development hours each year; part-time team members receive 12.

Professional development opportunities include topics about mental health, women-focused issues, technology and more.

In addition, the company gives team members access to tuition-free college and graduate programs through Rock Academy. Team members can choose from more than 200 education programs including certificates, high school diplomas, undergraduate and graduate degrees.
