Subaru donates a meal for every vehicle sold in 2016

By Subaru, The Detroit News

For the third year in a row, Subaru is helping feed the hungry. To celebrate Subaru’s eighth record-breaking sales year in 2016, Subaru will donate one meal for every vehicle sold in 2016 to help Feeding America® fulfill its mission to end hunger in the United States.

One meal for every vehicle sold in 2016 is the equivalent of 615,132 meals. More than 600,000 stomachs filled means bright smiles on more than 600,000 faces. Subaru will contribute $55,925 to help Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

Funds will be donated to Feeding America member food banks across the country in communities near the Subaru corporate headquarters and a dozen other food bank sites near Subaru of America’s regional offices. Those in need in places like Cherry Hill, N.J., Lithia Springs, Ga., Bloomington, Minn., Portland, Ore., Itasca, Ill., and Costa Mesa, Calif., will receive meals through Feeding America member food banks, as a result of Subaru’s donation to Feeding America.

“One in eight people face hunger in America, including more than 13 million children. We are thankful to Subaru for its ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and supporting children and families in need,” says Nancy Curby, senior vice president of corporate partnerships and operations at Feeding America.

Subaru’s all-time sales record of 615,132 vehicles in 2016 is an increase of 5.6 percent over 2015, with December 2016 sales topping 12.3 percent over the previous December, making it the company’s best-ever sales month.

Subaru’s strong U.S. sales increase is marked by 61 consecutive months of yearly month-over-month growth, and Subaru is pleased to celebrate its success through this special donation to help Feeding America fight hunger.

Feeding America provides food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 community-based food pantries and meal programs across America.

“As we celebrate another record-breaking year at Subaru, we, alongside our retailers and loyal customers, recognize the vital importance of giving back to our local communities across the country,” says Thomas J. Doll, president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc. “We are proud to once again work alongside Feeding America to fight hunger and provide meals to those who need them most.”

Many of Subaru’s current models contributed to the year’s sales success. The Forester, Legacy, Outback and Crosstrek each achieved new annual sales records. The Impreza, which is all-new for 2017, added 55,238 annual sales.

“We would like to thank all of our retailers for their continued commitment in making these record-breaking sales results possible and we look forward to making 2017 our next record year,” says Doll.
