Michigan State clips Michigan at Yost

Matt DeBlouw's goal 29 seconds into the third period held up as Michigan State defeated Michigan, 2-1, Saturday at Yost Ice Arena.

The victory clinched the No. 2 seed for MSU (17-15-2, 11-7-2-2) heading into the Big Ten tournament next week at Joe Louis Arena. Minnesota defeated Penn State, 6-2, Saturday, giving the No. 1 seed to the Big Ten champion Gophers. UM (20-14,12-8) has the No. 3 seed.

UM plays against No. 6 Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m. with the winner facing MSU on Friday also at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Zach Werenski scored UM's lone goal at 12:59 of the second period. Dylan Larkin and Justin Selman assisted. Otherwise, MSU's Jake Hildebrand was impenetrable, stopping 37 shots.

Michael Ferrantino opened MSU's account at 7:50 of the first. Ron Boyd and Joe Cox assisted.
