Detroit News predictions: MSU vs. Louisville

The Detroit News
Travis Trice is one of MSU's biggest offensive weapons.

Rod Beard: The Spartans showed some moxie by hitting their free throws in the final minutes against Oklahoma and continued their run, to within a step of the Final Four. Travis Trice continued his stellar play since the end of the regular season and the MSU Big Three is looking like they're on a mission. Beating Louisville will be tougher than the previous three and this would be the most unlikely of Tom Izzo's Final Four appearances. Start the celebration in East Lansing. Michigan State 64-58

Matt Charboneau: Montrezl Harrell will be a difficult matchup from Branden Dawson but the battle between Terry Rozier and Lourawls Nairn will be just as key. Nairn will need to stay out of foul trouble to help contain the quick, slashing guard and the Spartans must rebound well. Michigan State has more depth and it could be the key in Tom Izzo reaching his seventh Final Four. Michigan State 63-60

John Niyo: Branden Dawson apologized to his teammates after Friday night's win. He can make amends by matching the intensity of Louisville's Montrezl Harrell in this regional final. If he does, Michigan State's guards should be able handle that the Cardinals' press and matchup zone defense. Michigan State 68-62

Bob Wojnowski: The Cardinals don't have great deep shooters and their patented swarming defense has some leaks, but guard Terry Rozier is a feisty blur and big Montrezl Harrell is a wrecking ball. With Denzel Valentine and Travis Trice, the Spartans have a substantial shooting edge. Rick Pitino is a great Tournament coach, but Tom Izzo is turning in one of the all-time performances. Michigan State is playing like a team just discovering how good it is, and how good it can be. This would be one of Izzo's most-cherished Final Fours. Michigan State 70-67
