Four-star RB Robert Washington opts for Syracuse over UM

The Detroit News

Michigan has not landed four-star running back Robert Washington, the eighth-ranked player nationally at his position, although the Wolverines were among his finalists..

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Washington, from SouthLake Christian (Huntersville, N.C.) announced his decision Saturday afternoon but not without some major confusion. Washington's other finalists for the 2016 class included Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and Texas Christian.

Initially, a pre-recorded video in which Washington said he had committed to Florida was released, but at his news conference Washington chose Syracuse. He rushed for 2,233 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior, and led SouthLake Christian to its second straight state championship.

Phillip Gardner, a Gaston (N.C.) Gazette reporter who attended the news conference, reported on Twitter that Washington recorded the video Thursday and then changed his mind.
