City forward Will Mellors-Blair scored the winning goal in the 39th minute.

Will Mellors-Blair's goal in the 39th minute held up as Detroit City FC defeated intrastate rival Lansing United, 1-0, before 3,701 Sunday at Cass Tech.

The victory landed Detroit (5-2-1) in a first-place tie with Lansing (5-2-1) in the Midwest Region of the National Professional Soccer League. The win also avenges a 3-1 loss to United in East Lansing May 31.

Goalkeeper Alexandre Bouillennec (Saginaw Valley) made three saves, including one off a goal-bound header by United's Matt Brown in the 45th minute.

The tense occasion was reflected in six yellow cards being issued, four to Lansing and two to Detroit.
