Michigan Bucks advance to regional final after comeback win

The Detroit News

Substitute Alex Adelabu headed in the game-winner in the second overtime to lift the Michigan Bucks to a 3-2 victory over the Thunder Bay Chill Friday in the USL Premier Development League Central Conference semifinals at Ultimate Sports Arenas.

Adelabu's goal set up by Calvin Rezende capped a furious second-half comeback by the Bucks, who advance to Saturday's final against K-W United at Ultimate Soccer Arenas. The match starts at 7:30 p.m.

Thunder Bay (9-3-3) led 2-0 on goals by Sullivan Silva (27th minute) and Brandon Swatzendruber (43').

Michigan (12-1-2) opened its account in the 79th minute when Francis DeVries slammed home a free kick from 25 yards. Six minutes later, Tom Owens converted a penalty kick after a Thunder Bay player handled a ball inside the box.

Adelabu nearly scored in the first OT, ringing a shot off the post in the opening minute.

The Bucks are well familiar with their finals opponent. The team split its home-and-home series with K-W United (based in Waterloo, Ontario) by identical 3-1 results.
