Detroit — Championship leader Ken Block, in a Ford Fiesta, won the first of two Global Rally Cross races on Belle Isle this weekend, feathering by race leader Patrick Sandell on the seventh lap of the 10 lap race.

Scott Speed, in a Volkswagen Beetle, place second and Sebastian Eriksson, also in a Ford Fiesta, showed in third.

Block entered the completion with a 31-point lead for the championship.

Racing events on the island were delayed by about 20 minutes to 30 minutes, at times, because of continuing problems with the 190-feet wooden ramp that thrusts the drivers through the air for about 70 feet.

Problems with the construction of the jump ended a couple of hours early, Friday.

None of the races, qualifying heats or practices were canceled, Saturday.
