Funeral service on Monday for SVSU player Eric Wynns
A funeral service will take place Monday for Saginaw Valley State College receiver Eric Wynns of West Bloomfield who died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash Aug. 10.
The service will is 11 a.m. at New Hope Church, 23455 W. Nine Mile Road, Southfield.
Wynns' was en route to work in Saginaw when crash occurred on I-75 in Genesee County, a friend said.
The junior joined Saginaw State Valley's football program in January. The 5-foot-6, 160-pound slot back played at Birmingham Groves and West Bloomfield high schools, according to the Oakland Activities Association website.
"Any time you lose a member of your family it is extremely difficult, and this will be hard on our Cardinal football family," Saginaw Valley State football coach Jim Collins said. "We at SVSU embrace a family culture that is felt throughout our program and the entire athletic department. Eric was a fine young man and a great teammate. He will be sorely missed."
"I have spoken with Eric's family and they are understandably devastated by this. Our deepest sympathy goes out to them, and our football program will do what we can to support them during this trying time."
He was a new member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity at Saginaw Valley State and became chapter president, Josh Harley said.
A GoFundMe campaign started in Wynns' honor reached its goal of raising $5,000 within three days.
"He was full of light and brought a good spirit wherever he traveled," Harley said.
