Tigers-Indians game postponed again
Cleveland – Justin Verlander is a creature of habit. He is at his best when he takes the ball every fifth day. He gets a little cranky when that routine is messed with.
He's probably more than a little cranky now.
His start, initially scheduled for Friday, was postponed by rain for the second straight night Saturday. No makeup date was set. Most likely, it will be played the day after the regular season ends if it is deemed necessary in terms of impacting any of the playoff races.
Verlander will now start the first game of the doubleheader Sunday on seven days of rest. When he's pitched on six days or more rest this season, he has allowed 11 runs in 14.2 innings.
He's allowed just 13 runs total in his last nine starts on five days of rest.
Randy Wolf will start the second game of the doubleheader Sunday. It is a traditional doubleheader, meaning the second game will start 30 minutes after the first one ends.
Cody Anderson will start Game 1 for the Indians, Trevor Bauer Game 2.
Officials at Progressive Field waited two-and-a-half hours before calling the game Saturday. Weather forecasts for Sunday show rain leaving the area around 9 a.m.
