If you ain't first, you're last is what Ricky Bobby's father repeatedly told him in "Talledaga Nights." The Lions' Jim Caldwell can't even take solace in that home-spun nugget as he's ranked last as in caboose last in a USA Today ranking of NFL coaches.
The Lions are 1-5 in Caldwell's second season after he went 11-5 in his first term, leading the team to a NFC Wild-Card playoff game where it lost to the Cowboys. What a difference a year makes, surmises USA Today's Chris Chase who gave the Lions' boss a No. 32 ranking.
Chase went Leo Durocher in his reasoning: "Caldwell's last year at Wake Forest was my first year at Wake Forest and he was one of the nicest men I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. The end."
The Patriots' Bill Belichick is No. 1 in the ranking.
