The three teams that will play independent league baseball in Utica now have names.

Meet the Utica Unicorns, Eastside Diamond Hoppers and Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers.

The United Shore Professional Baseball League unveiled the teams’ names, logos and mascots during a news conference Monday at Utica’s Eppler Junior High School.

The teams will play this summer at the newly constructed Jimmy John’s Field.

The names were the result of fan voting, with the Unicorns coming in first.

According to a release from the USPSL, the Unicorns were developed to be “lovable yet fierce,” while the Diamond Hoppers were named to “represent a fly-ball catching frog one might see capturing fish flies along Lake St. Clair.”

The two teams are considered the new ballpark’s home teams, while the Beavers were “conceived” to be the cross-town rivals, though Jimmy John’s Field also will serve as home.
