MSU’s Valentine grabs Big Ten honor

Denzel Valentine was named Big Ten player of the week for the second week in a row after leading Michigan State to the Wooden Legacy championship.

Valentine, a 6-foot-5 senior guard, averaged 22.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and seven assists in four games last week. He also recorded his second career triple-double (29 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) in a victory over Boston College, and set a career scoring high with 32 points in a win over Boise State. Valentine was named tournament MVP.

Deyonta Davis, a 6-10 forward, was named Big Ten freshman of the week. Davis averaged 12.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and shot 80 percent from the floor.
