Ronaldo might miss Ann Arbor match

Cristiano Ronaldo carries the European Championship trophy on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury casts doubt on whether he will be fit to play for Real Madrid when the Spanish giants play English Premier League side Chelsea in the International Champions Cup match July 30 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

Hobbled by a tackle from France’s Dimitri Payet in the ninth minute of Sunday’s Euro 2016 final, the Portugal star eventually accepted that his game was over, leaving the pitch in the 25th minute with his hands covering his face.

Even without the latest injury, an appearance at Michigan Stadium might have been questionable because of Portugal’s extended European tournament run. Two years ago, Ronaldo played only briefly in Real Madrid’s match against Manchester United before a record crowd of 109,318 there.
