FIFA highlights Detroit City FC's rise in video

The Detroit News
The Northern Guard and Detroit City FC supporters are featured in the FIFA TV video.

FIFA TV, a division of the game’s governing body, is the latest to document Detroit City FC’s profound impact on the soccer scene.

In the five-minute video "Detroit Soccer (is Back!)" team owners Sean Mann and Alex Wright are interviewed as well coach Ben Pirmann and player David Edwardson. Vivid imagery of the city – both its decay and rebirth – is the backdrop for the story of five friends who conspired to start a semi-pro team  ago only to see it blossom into a community phenomenon.

This season, Detroit City FC had 7,500 fans attend its home opener at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck. The club plays in the fourth tier of U.S. professional soccer.

"It’s an incredible time to be part of soccer in America now,” Wright said, “but it’s even more incredible to be part of soccer in Detroit right now.”
