Cobo Center to host 2018 volleyball junior national championships
Detroit’s Cobo Center will host the 2018 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships.
The event will run from June 25 to July 4 and it will involve 1,208 teams and approximately 12,000 players, the Detroit Sports Commission announced Tuesday.
Twenty-six championships will be awarded in seven age groups ranging from 11-under to 17-under.
Detroit hosted the 2015 USA Volleyball Open National Championships concurrently with the NORCECA Men’s Champions Cup that included teams from the United States, Canada, Cuba and Mexico.
“USA Volleyball was thoroughly impressed with Detroit as it hosted the 2015 USA Volleyball Open National Championships for adults,” USA Volleyball senior director Tom Pingel said. “It is a city on the rise with a thriving downtown area where the event will be played at and most of the participants will be staying. There is no doubt in my mind that the 2018 GJNC will be one our finest.”
