Saturday's soccer: Detroit City FC grabs draw in final tune-up

Jeff Adkins' goal in the 79th minute earned Detroit City FC a 1-1 draw with Harpos FC on Saturday in a soccer exhibition game before 5,322 spectators at Keyworth Stadium.

Shane Wheeler's goal in the 58th minute gave the Boulder, Colorado-based visitors the lead before Adkins' tally evened things in the semi-professional team's final preseason tune-up.

Le Rouge host the Premier Development League Michigan Bucks on Wednesday in a single-elimination U.S. Open Cup match. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Keyworth Stadium.

Then DCFC opens its National Premier Soccer League campaign the following Sunday against rival AFC Ann Arbor. Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Ann Arbor Skyline High.

Against Harpos FC, coach Ben Pirmann gave Brazilian midfielder Rafa Mentzingen his DCFC debut in the second half. Last season, Mentzingen played for Lansing United where he scored nine goals, including four match winners.

AFC Ann Arbor 4, (at) Milwaukee Torrent 0: After a scoreless first half, the Mighty Oak erupted for four goals in the final 45 minutes in their NPSL opener with Yuri Farkas lighting the fireworks with a goal in the 55th minute. Marc Ybarra (74'), Kyle Breitmeyer (85') and Marlon Freitas (90') also scored for Ann Arbor, which hosts Ocean City Nor'Easters on Wednesday in the U.S. Open Cup at Eastern Michigan University's Paul Scicluna Field.
