Mount Pleasant, Mich. — John Simons and Chris Fowler scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Central Michigan to a 65-51 win over Eastern Michigan in a Mid-American Conference showdown Saturday.

The Chippewas never trailed after Simon drilled a 3-pointer with 17:20 left in the first half for a 3-2 lead.

Central Michigan (14-3, 4-2 MAC) came into the game second in the nation in scoring, averaging 85.1 points and 11.4 3-pointers per game on 42.3 percent shooting from distance. The Eagles held the Chippewas to 20.1 points below their average and limited them to 10-of-29 shooting (34.5 percent) from beyond the arc.

The Chippewas held a 45-38 advantage on the boards and led by 20 in the second half.

Eastern Michigan (12-7, 1-5) was led by 18 points from Raven Lee, the lone scorer to reach double figures.

Akron 71, (at) Western Michigan 69: Isaiah Johnson scored 16 points and made four free throws late.

Drake LaMont tipped in David Brown's missed layup attempt, capping a 9-2 surge to give Western Michigan a 68-67 edge with 1:28 left.

Johnson made a pair of free throws to regain the lead for the Zips at the 1-minute mark. The Broncos' Tucker Haymond made one free throw but missed the second to tie it at 69 with 48 seconds left. Kwan Cheatham Jr. grabbed the defensive board, and Johnson was then fouled and drained both free throws with 27 seconds remaining.

David Brown missed a 3 and Haymond couldn't convert the tip-in at the buzzer to seal it for the Zips (13-6, 4-2 Mid-American).

Taylor Perry scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead Western Michigan (13-6, 4-2).
