Sunday's roundup: Detroit falls to UIC
Detroit — Marc Brown scored 22 points and made 9 of 10 shots, sinking all three of his 3-point shots to lead Illinois-Chicago past Detroit for an 83-73 win Sunday.
Jay Harris scored 19, Paris Burns had 18 points and five assists, and Markese McGuire 14 as UIC (6-19, 2-8 Horizon) shot 58.7 percent on 46 attempts from the floor, including 12 of 22 from long range, to end an eight-game skid.
UIC led most of the game but Detroit (11-15, 4-7) edged ahead midway through the second half with back-to-back buckets from Jarod Williams to make it 63-58 with 8:31 to go.
Brown then sank a 3-pointer to ignite a 14-1 run that gave UIC the lead for good.
Williams had a career-high 18 for Detroit, which shot 53.8 percent. Juwan Howard Jr. also had 18, Paris Bass and Jaleel Hogan had 12 apiece.

(At) Valparaiso 82, Oakland 76: E. Victor Nickerson scored 16 for Valparaiso (22-4, 9-2 Horizon), which shot 57.7 percent to win its fourth straight.
Valparaiso opened with a 13-2 burst but Oakland (12-13, 7-3) edged ahead 45-44 with Jalen Hayes' 3-pointer midway through the second half. Valparaiso regained the lead for good with Tevonn Walker's 3-point play that made it 71-68 with 4:04 remaining.
Hayes had 21, Kahlil Felder 20 and Corey Petros 16 with 11 rebounds for Oakland.
Big Ten men
(At) Iowa 71, No. 17 Maryland 55: Aaron White scored 17 and Adam Woodbury matched a career high with 16 for Iowa (15-8, 6-4), which opened the game on a 22-3 run.
Peter Jok also matched a career high with 15 points for the Hawkeyes.
The Terrapins (19-5, 7-4) scored just 17 points in the first half as Iowa raced to a 23-point lead.
No. 20 Ohio State 79, (at) Rutgers 60: Freshman D'Angelo Russell had 23 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds for Ohio State (18-6, 7-4).
Jae'San Tate scored 20 and Keita Bates-Diop 14 for the Buckeyes
Bishop Daniels had 17 for the Scarlet Knights (10-15, 2-10), whop have lost eight in a row.

No. 21 Rutgers 57, (at) Michigan 50: Betnijah Laney had 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Rutgers (18-5, 9-3), which won its sixth straight.
Shannon Smith scored 19 and Siera Thompson 14 for Michigan (14-9, 6-6).
(At) Minnesota 86, Michigan State 79: Aerial Powers scores 31, Tori Jankoska 21 and Lexi Gussert 20 for Michigan State (11-12, 3-9). Carlie Wagner scored 25 for Minnesota (17-6, 6-5).
