Auburn, Ala. — Auburn associate head coach Tony Jones of Detroit has resigned and will be replaced by former Tigers All-American Chuck Person.
Auburn said Friday that Jones is pursuing unspecified coaching opportunities. He has worked under coach Bruce Pearl for 11 seasons at Auburn, Tennessee and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Pearl promoted Person to Jones' job as associate head coach, giving him a three-year contract.
He's Auburn's all-time leading scorer and played for 13 years in the NBA. Person also was an NBA assistant for 13 years.
Pearl says "there's not a more qualified and capable assistant coach in the country than Chuck Person."
Auburn has also promoted assistant Todd Golden from director of basketball operations to assistant coach. Steven Pearl replaces Golden after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach under his father last season.
Jones played and coached at Detroit Southwestern High.
