Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook and Western Michigan running back Jarvion Franklin are on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award.

The Maxwell Award, presented every year since 1937, is given to the College Football Player of the Year.

Cook, a senior, completed 212-of-365 passes last season for 3,214 yards and 24 TD, with eight interceptions. He led MSU to an 11-2 record and a win over Baylor in the Cotton Bowl.

Franklin, a sophomore, became first player in MAC history to win both conference Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in the same season. He had 306 carries for 1,551 yards and 24 TD.

The 2014 Maxwell Award winner was Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.
