Report: NCAA investigating Fisher’s SDSU program

The Detroit News

CBS Sports is reporting Tuesday the San Diego State men’s basketball program, led by former Michigan coach Steve Fisher, is under investigation for “potential rules violiations allegedly committed by the staff.”

CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish cited multiple anonymous sources.

Fisher, who has been at San Diego State since 1999, led Michigan to the 1989 national championship as an interim coach following Bill Frieder’s exit. He led Michigan to pair of national championship game appearances in 1992 and 1993 as part of the Fab Five era.

Fisher was fired in 1997 following an investigation into improper benefits provided by booster Ed Martin to former players.

Fisher has led San Diego State to five Mountain West Conference regular-season titles and eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including each of the last six seasons. He’s 339-185 at San Diego State (448-264 overall).
