Wayne State scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to turn a close game into a 56-21 blowout victory over Malone Saturday night.
The Warriors (2-1, 1-1 GLIAC) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a 37-yard pass from D.J. Zezula to Manny Mendoza and a 4-yard run by Demetrius Stinson.
Malone (0-3, 0-3) then took control with 21 straight second-quarter points, including two touchdown runs by Matt Blasiole, to lead 21-14.
The Warriors tied the score at 21 in the last minute of the half on a 42-yard pass from Zezula to Trent Brodbeck.
That pair hooked up again for a 54-yard touchdown pass and a 28-21 Wayne State lead 1:38 into the second half, and the Warriors rolled from there with two touchdown runs by Romello Brown and one each by Stinson and Deiontae Nicholas.
Zezula finished with 16 completions in 18 attempts for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Stinson gained 129 yards on 25 carries and Brodbeck caught four passes for 126 yards.
Michigan Tech 35, (at) Saginaw Valley 21: Saginaw Valley led 21-20 entering the fourth quarter, but Michigan Tech (3-0, 3-0) rallied with 9-yard pass from Brandon Cowie to David Walter and a 1-yard run by Alex Sherbinow. Walter and Sherbinow each had two touchdowns for Michigan Tech, and Jermaih Johnson scored two for Saginaw Valley (0-3, 0-2).
(At) McKendree 27, Northwood 24: Touchdown passes from Isaac Fisher to Cameron James of 67 and 26 yards in the fourth quarter wiped out a 24-13 Northwood lead. Fisher completed 29 of 44 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns for McKendree (2-0). Luke Shaffer carried 28 times for 164 yards and a touchdown for Northwood (1-2).
(At) Northern Michigan 32, Hillsdale 24: Shaye Brown completed 21 of 29 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown, and Aaron Harris carried 26 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns for Northern Michigan (2-1, 1-1). C.J. Mifsud completed 25 of 42 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown for Hillsdale (1-2, 1-2).
Ferris State 61, Grand Valley State 24: Jason ValderLaan completed 32 of 45 passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns, and Antonio Agurs caught 13 passes for 153 yards for Ferris State (2-0, 2-0). Bart Williams completed 14 of 31 for 227 yards and three TDs for Grand Valley (2-1, 1-1).
(At) Albion 47, Lakeland 21: Dominic Bona completed 23 of 37 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns, and Colin Parks carried 25 times for 169 yards for Albion (3-0). Michael Whitley had 381 yards passing and Kezlow Smith had 193 yards receiving for Lakeland (1-1).
(At) Kalamazoo 61, Concordia (Illinois) 15: Alex White completed 24 of 37 passes for 366 yards and six touchdowns, and Shon Powell carried 16 times for 116 yards and one TD for Kalamazoo (201). Concordia is 1-1.
(At) Olivet 44, Aurora 14: Braden Black completed 30 of 36 passes for 350 yards and three TDs for Olivet (3-0). Aurora is 0-2.
(At) Hope 48, Concordia (Wisconsin) 13: Rob Kish completed 20 of 35 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns, and Chris Leigh carried 17 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns for Hope (1-2). Concordia is 0-3.
(At) Adrian 36, Benedictine 7: Emanuel Stewart carried 17 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Damon Fuller returned an interception 30 yards for a score for for Adrian (2-1). Benedictine is 1-2.
(At) Alma 42, Rockford 21: Dylan Zaborowski completed 20 of 29 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, and Nick Sullivan carried 15 times for 75 yards and three TDs for Alma. Both teams are 2-1.
