Saturday’s state roundup: Morris leads Northwood over Wayne State

Mark Morris threw two touchdown passes for Northwood Saturday in a 31-13 victory over visiting Wayne State in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Morris, who threw for 337 yards, hit Devonta Elzy with a 37-yard scoring pass and Theron Wilson with an 82-yarder. Andre Carter had a 10-yard scoring run and Luke Shaffer scored from 2 yards out for Northwood (2-2, 2-1).

Manny Mendoza caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from D.J. Zezula for Wayne State (2-2, 1-2). Romello Brown ran for 119 yards on 15 carries.


Grand Valley State 65, (at) Lake Erie 23: Kirk Spencer ran for four touchdowns and threw for another for Grand Valley (3-1, 2-1).

Spencer, who had 164 yards on 19 carries, scored on runs of 6, 68, 10 and 6 yards. He also threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Jamie Potts.

Bart Williams threw for 262 yards and two Grand Valley scores, 73 yards to Brandon Bean and 32 yards to Matt Williams. Marquez Collman returned an interception 35 yards for a Grand Valley score.

(At) Ferris State 35, Saginaw Valley State 18: Jason Vander Laan threw for two scores and ran for another for Ferris (3-0, 3-0), ranked fourth in NCAA Division II.

Vander Laan, who threw for 220 yards and ran for 86, threw a 5-yard TD pass to JaJuan Pollock and a 9-yarder to Jamel Lockett. Vander Laan scored on a 3 yard run.

Brad Odeman Jr. ran for one touchdown and threw for another for Saginaw Valley (0-4, 0-3).

(At) Michigan Tech 24, Northern Michigan 23: David Walter caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Cowie with 2:10 left to win it for Tech (4-0, 4-0).

Cowie also had a 2-yard TD pass to Alex Sherbinow.

Shayne Brown threw two touchdown passes for Northern (2-2, 1-2), one to Marcus Tucker for 38 yards and one to Keyondre Craig for 4 yards.

Indianapolis 38, (at) Hillsdale 7: Hillsdale (1-3, 1-2) scored on C.J. Mifsud’s 1-yard run, then Indianapolis scored 38 unanswered points.
