Friday’s basketball: Oakland beats Alcorn State
Corpus Christi, Texas — Kahlil Felder scored 20 points and matched a season-high with 12 assists and Oakland cruised to an 84-51 victory over Alcorn State in the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic on Friday.
Felder was 8 of 11 from the field, and has 1,009 career points. He has a double-double in each game this season.
Percy Gibson had 14 points, and Sherron Dorsey-Walker added nine points with a career-high 16 rebounds for Oakland (2-2). Jalen Hayes, Max Hooper, and Brad Brechting chipped in 12 each.
Marquis Vance scored 13 points and Tamarcio Wilson 12 to lead Alcorn State (0-4). Deandre Davis had eight points with 11 rebounds.
Felder made a 3-pointer and the Grizzlies jumped out to an 18-4 run and built a 38-28 halftime lead. Felder scored 14 points in the first half.
The Grizzlies stretched their lead to 20 points midway through the second half and cruised from there.

Memphis 81, Ohio State 76 (OT): Shaq Goodwin scored 23 points and put Memphis ahead to stay with a basket to open overtime in the HoopHall Miami Invitational. Dedric Lawson and Ricky Tarrant Jr. each scored 16 points for Memphis (3-2), which held Ohio State to 0-for-6 shooting in the extra session. Avery Woodson scored 11 for the Tigers.
JaQuan Lyle scored 18, Marc Loving finished with 17 and Keita Bates-Diop added 10 for Ohio State (2-3).
Illinois 72, UAB 58: Kendrick Nunn scored 18 points in his season debut in a semifinal round game at the Emerald Coast Classic. Nunn, who missed the Illini’s first five games after having thumb surgery last month to repair a ligament, averaged 11.1 points last season which was third on the team.
Illinois (3-3) led 28-23 at halftime but took control with a 14-3 run to start the second half. Malcolm Hill had six of his 12 points during the run.
Maverick Morgan and Leron Black also scored 12 points for the Illini, who will face fourth-ranked Iowa State in Saturday’s championship game.
Chris Cokley had 13 points and six rebounds, and Robert Brown added 13 points for the Blazers (3-2).
