Saturday's state men: Wilder leads Western over Eastern
Kalamazoo — Thomas Wilder scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Western Michigan to a 94-86 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday.
Wilder finished with 9-of-13 shooting from the field including 5 of 5 from distance for the Broncos (9-12, 3-5 Mid-American). Tucker Haymond added 21 points and six rebounds and Anthony Avery Jr. had 11 points and five rebounds.
Western Michigan took the lead early in the first half and never relinquished it on its way to a 41-24 advantage at the break.
Wilder sank four 3-pointers in the second half, helping the Broncos to extend their lead to 83-71 with 3:01 to play. Eastern Michigan closed the gap to 86-79 with 1:14 remaining but Wilder, Haymond and Drake LaMont combined for eight free throws after that to keep the Broncos on top.
Ty Toney scored 23 points with four rebounds for the Eagles (10-11, 2-6).
(At) Central Michigan 77, Bowling Green 65: Chris Fowler scored 27 points, Braylon Rayson added 19 and Central Michigan rolled to a win over Bowling Green. Rayshawn Simmons contributed 10 points for Central, which has won three straight games. The Chippewas (12-9, 5-3 MAC) outshot Bowling Green behind the arc, hitting 9 of 22 while holding the Falcons to just 2 of 12.
Spencer Parker paced Bowling Green with 13 points. Worrell added 12 and Zack Denny had 11 for the Falcons.
Wayne State 83, (at) Walsh 76: Tristan Wilson had 19 points and blocked four shots as Wayne State shot a blistering 57 percent (30-of-53) in securing the road victory. Clark Bishop scored 16 points, Ronald Booth added 15, and George Spencer 11 for Wayne State 4-13, 4-10 GLIAC). Trey Fletcher had 27 points for Walsh (9-9, 7-7).
