Saturday's state women: Central Michigan makes it 8 straight

Da’Jourie Turner’s 24 points led Central Michigan in its eighth consecutive women’s basketball victory, a 73-67 road win over Northern Illinois Saturday.

The Chippewas (16-7, 10-2 Mid-American) had a 51-29 rebounding advantage as two players finished with double-doubles. Reyna Frost had with 12 points and 16 rebounds and Tinara Moore added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Courtney Woods had 17 points to lead Northern Illinois (10-12, 3-8).

Eastern Michigan 70, (at) Miami (Ohio) 46: Cha Sweeney had 24 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Eagles reached .500 in Mid-American play. Chanise Baldwin scored 13, Sasha Dailey added 11 and sera Ozelci 10 for Eastern (15-8, 6-6 MAC), which scored 35 points on 29 Miami turnovers. Leah Purvis had 14 points for Miami (9-14, 3-9).

(At) Western Michigan 69, Akron 65: Meredith Miller and Alexis Parks combined for 20 points in the second half to help ignite a fourth-quarter rally as the Broncos erased a 13-point deficit. Meredith Shipman had 16 points while Breanna Mobley had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Western (15-10, 7-6 MAC). Hannah Plybon and DiAndra Gibson each had 18 points for Akron (12-11, 6-6).

(At) Detroit 85, Valparaiso 65: Brianne Cohen’s career-high 23 points along with 11 rebounds helped lead Detroit (12-12, 8-5 Horizon). Lola Ristovski had 17 points, and Brittney Jackson 12 while Rosanna Reynolds and Chea Taylor each had 10 for the Titans, who led 38-24 at halftime. Jasmyn Walker had 12 points to lead Valparaiso (8-16, 4-9).

(At) Oakland 78, Illinois-Chicago 73: Olivia Nash scored 18, Taylor Jones added 14 and Korrin Taylor 13 as the Golden Grizzlies (14-10, 6-7 Horizon), which collected 17 steals and 27 points off 25 Illinois-Chicago turnovers. Ruvanna Campbell had 32 points and 19 rebounds for Illinois-Chicago (12-12, 3-10).

(At) Ashland 81, Wayne State 60: A 23-9 run by Ashland in the third quarter sealed Wayne State’s fate as Andi Daugherty led the Eagles (24-1, 18-1 GLIAC) with 23 points. India Hawkins scored 14 and Brittany Streetman added 13 for Wayne State (10-15, 5-14).
