Saturday's state women: UM rallies past Penn State

Katelynn Flaherty scored 30 points and Hallie Thome added 20 as Michigan erased an 11-point deficit in the third quarter to beat Penn State 78-73 in Big Ten women’s basketball game Saturday at Crisler Center.

Michigan (16-11, 8-8) shot 57 percent in the second half in mounting the comeback. Jullian Dunston had 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.

Teniya Page had 22 points to lead Penn State (10-17, 5-11).

Toledo 81, (at) Central Michigan 79 (OT): The Chippewas saw their eight-game winning streak fall after Presley Hudson’s layup sent the game into overtime tied 69-69. Tinara Moore had 16 points and Reyna Frost added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Central (17-8, 11-3 Mid-American).  Brenae Harris had 23 points for Toledo (15-10, 10-4).

(At) Ball State 70, Western Michigan 64: The Broncos’ modest two-game winning streak came to halt as Nathalie Fontaine scored 17 while Moriah Monaco added 11 and Renee Bennett 10 for Ball State (18-7,10-4 MAC). Alex Morton scored 12 and Meredith Shipman 10 for Western (15-11, 7-7).

(At) Eastern Michigan 84, Northern Illinois 60: Cha Sweeney’s 19 points led four players in double figures as Eastern racked up its fourth straight victory. Chanise Baldwin scored 17 while Sheyna Deans and Janay Morton each had 16 for the Eagles (17-8, 8-6 MAC). Courtney Woods had 21 points to lead Northern Illinois (10-15, 3-11).

Detroit 95, (at) Wright State 93 (OT): Nicole Urbanick scored 27 and Brianne Cohen had 26 as the Titans improved to .500 overall (13-13, 9-6 Horizon). Haleigh Ristovski, who hit one of-two free throws with 3 seconds left in overtime to secure the victory, had 11 points and Rosanna Reynolds 10 for Detroit. Antania Hayes had 24 points to lead Wright State (20-7, 10-4).

(At) Wayne State 79, Walsh 75: Shannon Wilson scored 21 to lead four players in double figures as the Warriors snapped a six-game losing streak. Kristen Long scored 15, Brittany Streetman added 11 and Payton Birchmeier 10 for Wayne State (11-16,6-15 GLIAC). Brittni Clopton had 24 points to lead Walsh (18-8, 15-6).
