Coach K denies lecturing Oregon player after Duke loss

The Detroit News
Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski says he only commended Oregon player Dillon Brooks.

Dillon Brooks hit a 3-pointer with the clock running out in Oregon’s 82-68 West Regional victory over Duke Thursday night.

That’s when the fireworks began.

Brooks said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told him in the handshake line, “I’m too good of a player to be showing off at the end. He’s right.”

Krzyzewski disputed Brooks’ account.

“I just congratulated him,” Krzyzewski said. “He’s a terrific player.”

Then he was asked whether he admonished Brooks for showing off.

“I didn’t say that,” Krzyzewski said. “You can say whatever you want. Dillon Brooks is a hell of a player. I said, ‘You’re a terrific player.’ And you can take whatever he said and then go with it, all right?”

Duke’s Grayson Allen, who has had his own issues with allegedly tripping players, brushed off an Oregon player who tried to shake his hand after the game.
