Western Michigan advances on walk-off grand slam

Western Michigan senior Hunter Prince hit a walk-off grand slam to beat Miami 10-6 in the Broncos' second game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at All Pro Freight Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

The RedHawks battled back to the tie the game at 6 in the top of the ninth inning, but the Broncos came through in the bottom half to go 2-0 to start the MAC Tournament for the first time in the school’s history.

The Broncos will take Friday off and wait until Saturday to play either Miami or Central Michigan.

Also Thursday, Central Michigan's Nick Deeg tossed a four-hit, eight-strikeout gem as the Chippewas defeated Ball State 4-0 in an elimination game.

Central Michigan will play (Ohio) Friday at 1 p.m. in an elimination game. The RedHawks defeated the Chippewas, 10-5, in the tournament opener Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Eastern Michigan beat Northern Illinois 6-2 to earn their first MAC tournament win since 2012.

Junior Marquise Gill had two hits, including a two-run double. Eastern Michigan will face the loser of the Kent State and Toledo game Friday at 4:30 p.m.
