EMU surprises walk-on with football scholarship

Eastern Michigan coach Chris Creighton talks to his team before announcing that Blake Banham will receive a full-ride scholarship.

Blake Banham got the surprise of his life Saturday.

The walk-on running back at Eastern Michigan was surrounded by his teammates at practice when three police officers interrupted practice.

One officer asked coach Chris Creighton about Banham, who is from St. Paul, Minn.

Before the sophomore could figure out what was going on, the team cheered Banham and lifted him onto their shoulders.

Shortly afterwards, coach Creighton praised Banham and told him he earned a full-ride scholarship.

"What you've done over the last two and a half years, man, on the field, off the field, in season, out of season, in the classroom, in the community, you're killing it right now," Creighton said.
