Western Michigan (10-0) is No. 21 in the College Football Playoff ranking, which is a spot below No. 20 Boise State (9-1). Both schools are competing for a spot in the Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 in Arlington, Texas.

Central Michigan and Western Michigan will play under the lights this season.

The big, annual rivalry game will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant.

Both teams have started 3-0, with Central Michigan getting a big victory against previously ranked Oklahoma State, and Western Michigan beating a pair of Big Ten opponents, in Illinois and Northwestern.

Both are in the top 50 in the nation's RPI, and both received votes in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll.

Tickets remain available for the game, at cmuchippewas.com, but are expected to sell out quickly.

Western Michigan won a thriller last year in Kalamazoo, 41-39, and leads the series, 47-37-2.

The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
