State roundup: Wayne State rolls past Tiffin

Romello Brown racked up 284 yards and three touchdowns for Wayne State in a 35-21 victory over Tiffin in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game Saturday at Tom Adams Field.

Donovan Zazula was 9-of-16 for 114 yards and Jamel Hicks had four catches for 61 yards for the Warriors (3-1, 3-1 GLIAC), who jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter.

After Demetrius Stinson got the Warriors on the board with an 11-yard touchdown run, which Tiffin (2-2, 1-2) answered on its next drive, Wayne State pulled away. Stinson punched in a 2-yard run on the following drive, before Brown’s 28-yard run made it 21-7.

Brown scored his second touchdown with 9:49 left in the third quarter, on a 28-yard run, to make it 28-7, before getting his third on a 66-yard run to make it 35-14.

Wayne State hosts Hillsdale in its homecoming game next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.


Grand Valley State 38, (at) Walsh 0: Terrell Dorsey scored on runs 13 and 2 yards while Bart Williams passed for 201 yards, including three TDs, as Grand Valley State (4-0, 4-0 GLIAC) posted its first shutout in four years. Walsh falls to 0-4.

(At) Northern Michigan 29, Northwood 24: Shaye Brown connected with Paris Woods on TD passes of 33, 24, and 32 in leading Northern Michigan (2-2). Joe Garbarino passed for 113 yards and a TD while rushing for another 110 yards, including a 10-yard score, for Northwood (0-4).

(At) Hillsdale 51, Michigan Tech 24: Chance Stewart threw for 355 yards and three TDs while scoring on runs of 12 and 10 yards in a home victory for Hillsdale (3-1). John Williams had TD runs of 6 and 3 yards for Michigan Tech (2-2).

Ashland 39, (at) Ferris State 31: A 70-yard scoring play from Travis Tarnowski to Adam Shaheen in the third quarter highlighted a 25-point comeback by Ashland (4-0), which trailed 31-14 in the second quarter.  Tarnowski threw for 355 yards and three TDs. Jahaan Brown ran for 115 yards, including a TD, for Ferris State (3-1).

Ohio Dominican 21, (at) Saginaw Valley 10: Grant Russell finished threw for  239 yards and a TD to lead visiting Ohio Dominican (2-2, 2-2). David Nay scored on a 2-yard run and Alex Kenrick had a 26-yard field goal for Saginaw Valley (2-2, 2-2).


Wisconsin-Stevens Point 44, (at) Adrian 19: Ryan Swigart passed for 163 and a TD as one of four quarterbacks used by Stevens Point (3-0). Jerron McGaw scored on a 40-yard pass from Gage Smith and David Nutter had a pair of 1-yard TD runs for Adrian (1-2).
