State roundup: No. 25 Wayne State crushes Walsh
Detroit – Wayne State, ranked No. 25 in this week’s AFCA Division II poll, trounced Walsh 47-14 on Saturday at Tom Adams Field.
The Warriors improved to 6-1 overall and in the GLIAC.
Deiontae Nicholas returned the opening kickoff a school-record 97 yards to put the Warriors up early.
The Warriors had 326 yards rushing on the day, led by Romello Brown, who ran 12 times for 119 yards – an average of 9.9 yards per carry. Brown scored on runs of 5 and 26 yards.
Demetrius Stinson also had two rushing TD, from 8 and 13 yards.
On defense, linebacker Valorian Cunningham led Wayne State with eight tackles, two for loss.

(At) Ferris State 45, Northern Michigan 23: The Bulldogs (5-2 overall and GLIAC) rushed for 436 yards, led by Reggie Bell, who had 154 and four TD on just 11 carries. Bell scored on runs of 4, 3, 68 and 49 yards. Jahaan Brown added 103 yards on nine carries for Ferris State. For Northern (3-4 overall, 3-3 GLIAC), Jake Mayon had 22 carries for 119 yards and two TD.
(At) Findlay 46, Hillsdale 28: Findlay stormed out to a 40-0 lead before a rally by Hillsdale (3-3 overall, 2-3 GLIAC), but it was too little, too late. Chance Stewart completed 26-of-38 passes for 249 yards and one TD to Trey Brock, who had five catches for 102 yards. Wyatt Batdorff and Scotty Penola led the Hillsdale defense with 14 and 10 tackles, respectively.
(At) Grand Valley 41, Truman State 3: Bart Williams completed 14-of-24 passes for 279 yards and two TD for the Lakers (7-0) in this non-conference matchup. Nick Dodson (12 catches, 120 yards) caught both of those scoring passes, for 30 and 59 yards. Marty Carter rushed 13 times for 104 yards and two TD, and Collin Schlosser led the Laker defense with 10 tackles.
(At) Ohio Dominican 35, Northwood 28: Abdul Levy rushed 15 times for 99 yards and two TD for Northwood (1-6 overall and GLIAC). Northwood had 268 yards rushing but just 60 passing.
(At) Tiffin 24, Michigan Tech 17: Michigan Tech (2-4 overall and GLIAC) led 17-0 midway through the third quarter before Tiffin scored 24 unanswered points. The Huskies managed just 245 yards of total offense but also limited Tiffin to 306. Tech linebacker Marvin Wright had 13 tackles. David Walter (10 yards) and Brandon Cowie (26 yards) caught TD passes for the Huskies.

(At) Alma 38, Aurora 14: Alma (4-2) had four rushing TD on the day, led by Nick Sullivan, who carried 24 times for 95 yards and three scores in the non-conference game. Dylan Zaborowski had 23 carries for 143 yards and one score. Alma totaled 358 rushing yards.
Olivet 31, (at) Albion 14: Olivet (5-1, 3-0) scored twice in the third quarter to pull away. In that quarter, Jerome Washington (13 carries, 90 yards) had a 9-yard TD run and Gunnar Aper followed with a 27-yard field goal for the final margin. Washington also scored on a 2-yard run. For Albion (0-6, 0-3), Chad Hamilton completed 26-of-43 passes for 212 yards and two TD.
Trine 42, (at) Kalamazoo 17: Trine scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to pull away from Kalamazoo (2-4, 0-3). Linebacker Quentin Sweeney led the Hornet defense with 10 tackles.
Hope 25, (at) Adrian 7: Michael Custer connected with Cooper Cecchini on a 75-yard TD pass while Darren Ford had field goals from 26, 30, 21 and 19 yards for Hope (3-3, 2-1). Johnnyx Charlemagne scored on a 78-yard pass from Gage Smith for Adrian (3-3, 1-1).
