State roundup: Ferris State derails Wayne State

Reggie Bell passed for 239 yards and two touchdowns while scoring on runs of 65 and 37 yards to lead No. 25 Ferris State to a 42-20 victory over visiting No. 22 Wayne State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday.

Jahann Brown had TD runs of 12 and 32 yards for Ferris (7-2 GLIAC, 7-2 overall), which led 28-13 at halftime. Bell rushed for 172 yards on 13 carries in addition to throwing TD strikes to Jajuan Pollock (6 yards) and Shakur Sanders (49 yards).

Donovan Zezula’s scored on runs of 23 and 21 yards in the first half for Wayne State (7-2 GLIAC, 7-2 overall). Romello Brown scored on a 25-yard run with 2:02 left for Wayne State.


Hillsdale 41 (at) Northern Michigan 38: Joe Reverman rushed for 168 yards and scored on runs of 3, 65 and 6 yards as Hillsdale moved to .500 (4-4). Jake Mayon scored on a 55-yard run with 7:37 left to close within three but the Wildcats (3-6) went three-and-out on their next possession with 5:22 left. Northern’s Shaye Brown passed for 346 yards and four TDs.

(At) Michigan Tech 24, Ashland 21: Tech’s Brandon Cowie passed for 241 yards and three TDs, connecting with Ian Fischer for scoring strikes of 64 and 21 yards. David Walter also had an 8-yard TD catch for Tech (3-5). Travis Tarnowski passed for 256 yards and two TDs for Ashland (7-2) but threw three interceptions.

Tiffin 42, (at) Northwood 14: Kyle Brunson (114) and Antonio Pipkin (111) combined for 225 yards and two touchdowns as Tiffin (6-3) rolled up 533 yards in total offense against Northwood (2-7). Theron Wilson had three catches totaling 119 yards, including a TD, for Northwood.

(At) Saginaw Valley State 44, Lake Erie 13: Saginaw Valley State (5-3. 5-3) grabbed a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Tommy Scott Jr. carried 13 times for 151 yards and two TDs, and Ryan Conklin passed for two more TDs. Lake Erie is 0-9, 0-9.

(At) Grand Valley State 28, Findlay 17: Matt Williams had two touchdown catches, including the game-winning grab on an 8-yard reception with 6:32 left, to lead No. 2 Grand Valley State to its ninth consecutive win (9-0, 8-0 GLIAC). Bart Williams passed for 325 yards and three TDs for the Lakers. Rhys Gervais passed for 263 yards and two TDs for Findlay (4-5, 4-5).


(At) Olivet 36, Alma 30:  Braden Black passed for 279 yards and four TDs, connecting with Mitchell Bailey on scoring strikes of 36 and 17 yards in Olivet’s victory. Kornelius Saxton had four catches totaling 103 yards for Olivet  (7-1, 4-0 MIAA). Danny Hugan had eight catches totaling 211 yards, including three TDs for Alma (5-3, 2-2).

(At) Hope 31, Kalamazoo 6: Mike Miklusicak ran for 166 yards, including TD runs of 6, 14 and 55 to lead Hope (5-3). Sean Bauer scored on a 40-yard interception return for Kalamazoo (2-6).

(At) Trine 31, Adrian 13: Andrew Duckett passed for two touchdowns as Trine (6-2) surged to a 21-0 lead before Adrian (4-4) scored on D’Angelo Gaines’ 1-yard run with 5:02 left in the third quarter.

(At) Albion 63, Rockford 20: Sam Blanzy was 21-of-29 for 359 yards, including four TDs, while leading Albion (1-7) to its first victory. Collin Poore had TD runs for 3 and 5 yards in the lopsided win. Andrew Perez passed for three TDs to lead Rockford (1-7).
