Thursday's basketball: Golden Grizzlies improve to 7-1

Sherron Dorsey-Walker hit five 3-pointers and had 27 points — both career highs — and Jalen Hayes scored 18 on 6-of-8 shooting as Oakland cruised to a 92-64 win over Oral Roberts on Thursday night in Rochester, Mich.

Dorsey-Walker made 9 of 13 from the field, 4 of 4 free throws and had four assists, and Stevie Clark added 10 points and nine assists. Martez Walker, Oakland’s leading scorer at 20.9 per game, failed to reach double figures for the first time this year, finishing with seven points on 2-of-7 shooting.

Dorsey-Walker hit a 3 and then converted a 3-point play when he was fouled on a dunk to spark a 21-6 run that gave the Golden Grizzlies (7-1) a 43-26 lead with 2:46 left in the half and led by double figures the rest of the way. Isaiah Brock’s layup with 8:58 to play gave Oakland its biggest lead, 85-48.

Albert Owens scored a career-high 23 points for ORU (1-6).

(At) Wayne State 71, Lake Erie 60: The Warriors (4-1) extended its winning streak to four games with a win over Lake Erie (0-8) in Detroit. Marcus Moore led WSU's attack with a career-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting and coach David Greer tied Ron Hammye's program record of 212 victories.

Michigan 92, (at) Georgia Tech 52: Junior Katelynn Flaherty scored a game-high 25 points in a 40-point victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday as part of the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. Freshman Kysre Gondrezick added 15 points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench. The Wolverines are 7-1 and will face Xavier in Cincinnati on Monday.

(At) Central Michigan 95, Loyola 57: Presley Hudson scored a season-high 29 points in a non-conference victory over Loyola on Thursday afternoon in Mount Pleasant. The Chippewas improved to 5-2.

(At) Wayne State 69, Lake Erie 67: The Warriors opened conference play with a victory over Lake Erie on Thursday in Detroit. Payton Birchmeier scored 19 points in 33 minutes for Wayne State.

(At) No. 8 Gonzaga 97, Mississippi Valley State 63: Josh Perkins and Silas Melson had 15 points apiece as Gonzaga remained undefeated and kept Mississippi Valley State winless Thursday night in Spokane, Wash. Nigel Williams-Goss chipped in 13 points, five assists and three steals for the Bulldogs (7-0). The Delta Devils (0-9) had an energetic start, but the Bulldogs’ nine 3s built a 21-point halftime lead.

Cincinnati 55, (at) No. 19 Iowa State 54: Jacob Evans III made two free throws with 20 seconds left in overtime and Cincinnati upset Iowa State on Thursday night in Ames, Iowa. Kyle Washington had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Evans had 11 points for the Bearcats (6-1), who also snapped Iowa State’s 37-game non-conference home winning streak. Gary Clark and Kevin Johnson also scored 11 points each for the Bearcats.

(At) No. 20 South Carolina 68, Vermont 50: PJ Dozier had a career-high 21 points to lead the Gamecocks to a victory over Vermont in Columbia, S.C. South Carolina has started 7-0 for the second consecutive year. It was also the Gators’ first game as a ranked team during coach Mike White’s two seasons in Gainesville.

No. 24 Florida 91, (at) North Florida 60: Chris Chiozza had 16 points and nine assists, and Justin Leon added 13 points as Florida handled North Florida on Thursday in Jacksonville. North Florida’s all-time leading scorer Dallas Moore finished with 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting. Canyon Barry chipped in 12 points for the Gators (7-1), who improved to 6-0 against North Florida.
