Thursday’s basketball: Wayne State men win, women lose

George Spencer scored 18 points, Ronald Booth 16, Michael Lewis 14 and Chuck Key 12 as Wayne State (8-1, 5-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated Ohio Dominican 82-59 in a men’s basketball game at Detroit.

It was the eighth straight win for Wayne State, its longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season.

Sam Hickey scored 14 and Ronnie Williams 12 for Ohio Dominican (6-4, 2-3).

Wayne State had 25 points off turnovers compared to 4 for Ohio Dominican, and outscored it in the paint 32-14.

State women

Ohio Dominican 69, (at) Wayne State 68: Ohio Dominican took the lead with two free throws by Megan Eyre with 32 seconds left. Darian Rose scored 15 and Lauren Bates 13 for Ohio Dominican (7-4, 3-2 GLIAC). Nastassia Chambers scored 23 and Shannon Wilson 13 for Wayne State (4-6, 2-3).
