Louisville’s Jackson headlines early Heisman candidates
With the college football season over, Pro Football Focus turned its attention to next year and unveiled 10 early names to watch for the 2017 Heisman Trophy.
Seven of the players are quarterbacks, highlighted by 2016 winner Lamar Jackson of Louisville. In addition to Jackson is Oklahoma’s Blake Mayfield, Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph, Southern California’s Sam Darnold, Washington’s Jake Browning, Alabama’s Jalen Hurts and University of Southern Florida’s Quinton Flowers.
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley was the lone player from the Big Ten to make senior analyst Steve Palazzolo’s list, which also included LSU running back Derrius Guice and Florida State safety Derwin James.
Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough were among the other names to watch.
No Wolverines or Spartans were mentioned.
