Bucks' product Cicerone goes to Timbers in MLS draft

Russell Cicerone of Bloomfield Hills was taken in the fourth round, 76th overall, by the Portland Timbers in the MLS Super Draft.

Russell Cicerone, here playing for the Michigan Bucks, was selected in the fourth road (76th overall) taken by the Portland Timbers in the MLS Super Draft.

Cicerone, whose mother Mary Cicerone is longtime Birmingham Marian girls basketball coach, played for the USL Premier Development League Michigan Bucks and collegiately at the University of Buffalo.

The Birmingham Brother Rice standout was instrumental in the Bucks championship run last season.

Cicerone converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute in the Bucks' 3-2 victory over Calgary Foothills in the PDL championship at Ultimate Soccer Arenas Aug. 6. He also scored in the 23rd minute.

At Buffalo, Cicerone had 42 goals and 22 assists and was a four-time First-Team All-Mid American Conference selection.
