Spartans lead women’s golf regional; Wolverines ninth

Michigan State leads the Athens Regional by five shots over Alabama after the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Tournament in Athens, Georgia.

Sarah Burnham is tied for second at 3-under par 69 to lead the Spartans, who have a total of 4-under 284.

Michigan is ninth in the Columbus (Ohio) Regional at 24-over 312.

Big Ten medalist Elodie Van Dievoet is tied for seventh at 2-over 74.
