UDM hoops adds Virginia Tech, Saint Louis for 2017-18

Detroit — Detroit Mercy men's basketball's nonconference schedule for 2017-18 continues to take shape.
The school announced Wednesday it will play at Virginia Tech and at Saint Louis in the opening rounds of the 2K Classic.
Detroit Mercy will play at Virginia Tech on Nov. 10 in the first meeting between the teams, and at Saint Louis on Nov. 22 in a meeting of old foes of what now is called the Horizon League.
Saint Louis leads the all-time series, 29-15, and last met in November 2007, a 66-58 Detroit Mercy loss.
Detroit Mercy also will play two 2K Classic games in a subregional at Belmont on Nov. 18-19. The Titans will be joined there by Belmont, Houston Baptist and Seattle, and those matchups will be announced at a later date.
Virginia Tech, Saint Louis, Providence and Washington will play in the championship round of the 2K Classic, set for Madison Square Garden on Nov. 16-17.
Detroit Mercy also will play Michigan on Dec. 16, in the first game of a doubleheader in Detroit. It'll pit Michigan coach John Beilein against his former assistant, Bacari Alexander, who will be in his second year as Detroit Mercy coach.
The second game of that doubleheader at Little Caesars Arena will feature Michigan State and Oakland.
In Alexander's first year at Detroit Mercy, the Titans were 8-23 overall and 5-12 in the Horizon League.
