UM, MSU women out at NCAA golf

Sugar Grove, Ill. — Michigan finished 17th and Michigan State 19th in the NCAA women’s golf tournament at Rich Harvest Farms on Monday.

Neither team advanced to Tuesday’s match-play event.

The Wolverines shot 299 for a three-day total of 929, 65-over par. The Spartans finished at 74-over 938 after a 304.

Michigan’s Elodie Van Dievoet shot a 4-under 68 to finish in a tie for fourth with a 54-hole total of 3-over 219. MSU’s top finisher was Sarah Burnham, who shot 72 and finished in a tie for 29th at 13-over 229.

Arizona State senior Monica Vaughn won the individual title with two birdies over her last four holes to close with a 1-under 71.

Host school Northwestern led eight teams advancing to match play that will decide the team title the next two days, along with Stanford, Arizona State, Ohio State, Southern Cal, Florida, Baylor and Kent State.
