Saturday’s state basketball: CMU rallies to victory
Bowling Green, Ohio — Shawn Roundtree scored 19 points and had six assists and Kevin McKay had 16 points and four steals and Central Michigan beat Bowling Green 84-75 on Saturday.
Bowling Green extended its 37-34 halftime lead to 56-41 in the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second half as Justin Turner had two 3-pointers and a jump shot. Josh Kozinski later hit a 3-pointer and Central Michigan (13-6, 2-4 Mid-American Conference) was within seven (64-57).
The Chippewas then put together a 13-2 run when Roundtree made two 3-pointers and Kozinski and Luke Meyer each added a 3-pointer for 72-70 lead with five minutes left. Bowling Green missed 4 of 5 during the run. Turner’s layup with 6:42 to play marked the last field goal for Bowling Green (12-7, 3-3).
Meyer had 16 points and Kozinski 14. Central Michigan made 11 of 25 from beyond 3-point range.
Rodrick Caldwell led the Falcons with 16 points, Demajeo Wiggins and Dylan Frye each scored 13, Turner 12 and Derek Koch 11.

Ohio 72, (at) Eastern Michigan 66: Jordan Dartis tied a career high with seven 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead Ohio. Dartis hit 7 of 10 3-point attempts with the Bobcats making 10 of 18 from the arc. Mike Laster added 16 points and Teyvion Kirk 12 for the Bobcats (9-9, 2-4 Mid-American), who ended a three-game losing streak and won their first true road game.
James Thompson IV had 21 points and 14 rebounds, his 13th double-double this season, with Ty Groce adding 15 points, Paul Jackson 12 and Tim Bond 11 for EMU (11-8, 2-4). Bond reached 200 steals, second on the Eagles’ career list behind former NBA player Earl Boykins (220).
Kirk’s basket with 15 minutes left gave the Bobcats the lead for good and they led by 11 with three minutes remaining. The Eagles scored seven straight points to get within 69-65 with 1:32 remaining but no closer.
Northern Michigan 83, (at) Wayne State 74: Isaiah Johnson scored 30 and Naba Echols 20 for Northern (10-7, 7-3 GLIAC). Ronald Booth scored 18 and George Spencer 16 for Wayne State (8-8. 6-5).

State women
(At) No. 19 Michigan 86, Illinois 42: Katelynn Flaherty scored 27 points, Hailey Brown and Hallie Thome had double-doubles and Michigan continued the best start in school history. Brown had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Thome had 13 points and 11 rebounds to give the Wolverines (17-4, 6-2 Big Ten) two players with double-doubles in the same game for the first time since November 2014. Nicole Munger added 14 points.
After the Illini (9-12, 0-7) scored the first five points of the game, Michigan went on a 21-2 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers by Flaherty, who was 5 of 8 behind the arc. It was 24-12 after one quarter and 37-24 at the half before a 17-2 burst to open the third quarter.
Michigan made 9 of 17 3-pointers and 33 of 66 field goals overall, plus 11 of 14 free throws.
Illinois was 18 of 26 (27 percent), 5 of 21 behind the arc and 1 of 3 from the line. Also, 21 turnovers led to 31 Michigan points.
