And the Wolverines finished second against Tuesday — in the final USA Today coaches’ rankings.

Michigan (33-8) was seventh in the previous rankings, released before the start of the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan State (30-5), upset in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finished 11th, down from fifth in the previous rankings.

Villanova (36-4) received all 32 first-place votes after dominating en route to its second national championship in three years. Villanova won all six NCAA Tournament games by at least 12 points.

Kansas (31-8) was third, Duke (29-8) fourth and Virginia (31-3) fifth, after being the first No. 1 seed to lose a first-round game.

The biggest jump was Loyola-Chicago (32-6), which went from unranked to seventh after its stunning run to the Final Four.
