Former Ohio State assistant coach Zach Smith, who was fired last month after a history of domestic violence allegations became public, was arrested for suspected drunken driving in 2013 but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

In April 2013, Smith pleaded guilty to an amended charge of failure to control and paid a $375 fine.

It’s unclear whether the misdemeanor was reported to the university. Smith’s attorney declined comment, and Ohio State didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Meantime, his ex-wife has talked to university investigators about domestic abuse allegations.

An attorney for Courtney Smith says Smith was interviewed Monday. Smith was accompanied by her lawyers and “welcomed the opportunity to speak to the investigators,” according to an emailed statement from attorney Julia Leveridge.

Ohio State trustees initiated the probe to determine if coach Urban Meyer properly handled domestic abuse allegations against the ex-receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. Meyer is on paid leave until the investigation is finished, which is expected to take about a week.

Zach Smith has denied being abusive with his ex-wife and has never been charged. But a court granted her a domestic protection order on July 20, which led to his firing by Ohio State.

Frost burglary arrests

Police have arrested two more people in connection with a burglary at the home of Nebraska football coach Scott Frost.

Lincoln police said Monday that a 20-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday and a 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday. A 17-year-old girl also was arrested last week.

Police said investigators have recovered several pairs of athletic shoes believed to have been stolen. Frost told police on July 29 that burglars entered an unlocked garage door at his house, which is unoccupied while being renovated.

Bobo hospitalized for tests

Colorado State football coach Mike Bobo has been hospitalized to undergo a medical evaluation after experiencing numbness in his feet.

Bobo, 44, said in a statement Monday that he’s “very encouraged by the test results to this point and hope to have some answers soon.” But he gave no indication about how long he might be away from football.
