Ypsilanti – Eastern Michigan intercepted Akron on three straight possessions, including one returned for a touchdown by Maxx Crosby, and the Eagles became bowl-eligible with a 27-7 victory over Akron on Saturday.

With EMU (6-5, 4-3 Mid-American) leading 10-7 late in the third quarter, Kevin McGill leaped to make a one-handed pick of Alex Ramart’s pass at the Eagles’ 11-yard line. That interception didn’t result in a score but the Eagles’ punt to the Akron 1 set up Crosby’s pick for a touchdown.

On the first play on the Zips’ ensuing possession, Vince Calhoun intercepted a deep pass and returned it 39 yards to the Akron 6 and Breck Taylor ran for a touchdown on the next play for a 24-7 lead. Ian Eriksen had EMU’s other touchdown with a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

The Zips (4-5, 2-4) held a 10-7 halftime lead after Jeremiah Knight’s 70-yard punt return with 2:16 left before the break.

EMU outgained Akron 384-90. Ramart was just 4 of 15 for 29 yards passing and the three interceptions.

Eastern QB Tyler Wiegers (Detroit Country Day) was 15 for 23 passing for 129 yards. Eriksen finished with 96 yards on 15 carries.

The Eagles have played in bowl games in 1971, 1987 and 2016.

Bowling Green 24, (at) Central Michigan 13: Jarret Doege threw for a touchdown, Andrew Clair ran for a score and Bowling Green cashed in on an on-side kick and a turnover to win.

Trailing 13-0 at halftime, the Falcons scored on Andrew Clair’s 29-yard run, recovered the ensuing on-side kick and pulled ahead 14-13 six plays later when Doege hit Dorian Hendrix on a 2-yard pass.

Nate Needham’s 20-yard field goal added to the total before the Chippewas, pinned on their own 9 after stopping the Falcons on downs, fumbled in the end zone and the Falcons’ Kyle Junior recovered it for the score. The Falcons later unsuccessfully tried to fake a field goal before Marcus Milton’s interception with 2:39 to play iced the game.

Doege was 13 of 23 for 113 yards and Clair gained 82 yards on 12 carries for Bowling Green (2-8, 1-5 MAC).

Austin Hergott, 11 of 21 for 94 yards, hit Jilian Hicks on a 30-yard TD pass and Jonathan Ward scored on an 8-yard run for the Chippewas (1-10, 0-7).
