Hillsdale — Will Ark was 21-for-36 for 197 yards and threw for two touchdowns while Jared Smith rushed for 172 yards and a score as Michigan Tech upset host Hillsdale, ranked No. 19 in the Division II poll, on Saturday.

Ben Hartley had eight receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns for Michigan Tech in the season opener for both teams.

Michigan Tech, out of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, racked up 411 yards of offense, to Hillsdale's 160. It led 23-7 at half.

For Hillsdale, out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Luke Keller was 8-for-22 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Joe Bentley had four receptions for 102 yards and two scores.


(At) Grand Valley State 35, Edinboro 10: No. 12 Grand Valley was up 21-3 at halftime and cruised from there. Cole Kotopka was 18-for-29 for 253 yards and two touchdowns, and Aryuan Cain-Veasey rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Cain-Veasey netted scoring runs of 94 yards, 48 yards and 29 yards.

(At) Northern Michigan 30, McKendree 9: Ryan Johnson was 10-for-14 passing for 134 yards and three touchdowns, and Tyshon King rushed for 80 yards and a score for Northern Michigan. Benjamin Loutsis, Ryan Knight and Mitch Heaton had receiving touchdowns.

Tiffin 22, (at) Northwood 19: Stanley Johnson caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Nick Watson with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift Tiffin. For Northwood, Bryant Lkeft caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Grant Dunatchik to take the lead with 14:34 remaining.

Saginaw Valley State 35, (at) Texas A&M-Kingsville: Casey Williams had four receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown as Saginaw Valley State took a 14-0 halftime lead and controlled things from there. At quarterback, Ryan Conklin was 13-for-20 for 259 yards and three touchdowns.


Kalamazoo 3, (at) Oberlin 0: Greg Kearns kicked a 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, enough for Kalmaazoo to get the victory. Kalamazoo was outgained, 250-230, but kept Oberlin from the end zone. Jake Sypniewski had three interceptions for Kalmaazoo.

(At) Albion 56, Defiance 6: Albion racked up 444 yarsds of offense, led by Markell McCoy, who rushed for 154 yards on 22 carries, with one touchdown. Kyle Thomas threw for three touchdowns. Justin Thomas had three catches for 78 yards and a score.

Baldwin Wallace 31, (at) Alma 14: Baldwin Wallace scored the game's first 31 points to put it away. For Alma, Joseph Schaefer had four receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown, a 20-yard connection with Ryan Stevens.

Olivet 20, (at) Wilmington (Ohio) 17: Olivet trailed at the half, but a 6-yard TD pass from Kalbe Jarrett to Seth Young with 2:12 left in the game put it away. Noah McMinn rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for Olivet.

(At) Concordia (Wis.) 38, Finlandia 7: Finlandia trailed 38-0 midway through the third quarter, as Concordia outgained on offense, 330 yards to 111. 

Heidelberg 57, (at) Adrian 7: Adrian allowed 30 first-quarter points and gave up 591 yards of offense. Henry Wilson had three catches for 85 yards and a score for Adrian.
